FAQ: What Is the Difference Between Inside & Outside Mount?

Deciding whether you want either an inside mount or an outside mount is one of the first steps in the process of searching for new window treatments. It is important to understand the differences between the two in order to know what will work best for you and your home.

What Is An Inside Mount?

Having an inside mount means that your shade will be installed inside the window casing (inner edge to inner edge).

An inside mount is ideal for limiting a light gap and maximizing energy efficiency. It achieves a finished look, and you can layer with other window coverings if desired.

What Is An Outside Mount?

Having an outside mount means that your shade will be installed on the wall surface, outside the window opening, or directly on the trim or molding that surrounds the perimeter of the window opening.

An outside mount is ideal for covering windows with limited depth and covering imperfections on the window casing. It offers more flexible install positions and also gives the illusion of a larger window.
