5 Fall DIYs With Original Shades

The days have gotten shorter, the leaves have changed color and the temperature is still dropping…we know what that means – we are in the midst of fall! Are you installing new Original Pleated Paper Shades or replacing your current ones for the season change? Do not throw away the excess paper  – it can be used for some DIYs! Or if you are new to Original Shades and want to do these DIYs because they are so cute, that works too.

Here are 5 fall DIY crafts you can do with Original Shades.

Spooky Ghost Shade

Another fun craft for all ages is our Spooky Ghost shade. We went over how we did this in an Amazon Live too. You can find all of the items needed and directions for this DIY here.

Another fun Halloween shade we made last year is also available here.

Paper Pumpkins

When we think of fall, pumpkins are one of the first items that come to mind. Creating them from leftover shade scraps is so easy too!

You will need the following:

 Original Paper Shades
– Scissors
– Paint or spray paint (orange, red, brown and yellow)
– Glue/Adhesive of your choice

First, you will want to paint your paper to the desired colors. Make sure to keep a few scraps for stems. Once painted and dried, simply take your scraps of paper and fold them so they make a circle. Glue the two ends together and let it dry. While drying, you can create your pumpkin stems. These can be brown and just one piece of paper will work. You can glue this in the center of the circle or even at the top – wherever you like best. You can now place these on your hanging shade or around the window – or anywhere in your home! They are so cute and easy to make, even your little ones will enjoy it.

Paper Leaves

We have not made these yet, but they can definitely be done with some Original Paper Shades. You will need the following:

 Original Paper Shades
– Scissors
– Paint (orange, red and yellow)
– Glue/Adhesive of your choice
– Stencils (optional)

While there are general instructions we found on Pinterest, we wanted to explain how to make them more leaf-like! To do this, all you would need to do differently than the original creator would be cutting the paper into more leaf-like shapes. You can freehand your leaves, or use a stencil – whichever you find easier. For this DIY project, you can either keep the leaves as a garland or make them separate and hang them on your hanging shade or even just around your window. Either way, it will create a fun custom fall look with your leftover shade scraps.

Fall Themed Painted Shade

This shade can be as simple or elaborate as you want. Here is what you will need:

 Original Paper Shades
– Scissors
– Paint (orange, red and yellow)
– Glue/Adhesive of your choice
– Stencils (optional)
– Paint brushes
– Stickers (optional)

Let your creative side show with this fun craft. First, you will want to decide what you want to put on your shade. Once you have that figured out, you can begin designing it. Flatten the shade as much as possible so it is easier to work with – the pleats sometimes make it hard to draw, paint or cut so just flatten the shade to do it. Then, all you have to do is create. You can draw, paint, or stick whatever you want on your shade. Once you are done and satisfied with your shade, let it dry and then re-pleat the shade. Now, you are ready to install your shade. Follow normal installation instructions and viola! You have a fall themed shade for your window!

These fun fall themed DIYs can make for a great girls night, couples date, team building exercise or even just something exciting to do with your kiddos.
