Shade Hacks: Painting Shades To Match Decor

Did you know you can paint your Original and Original Arch shades to match your decor, introduce an accent color, or create a textured pattern? Although we offer staple neutral tones like white, natural, cafe, gray, chocolate and black, you may want to match your shade to an upholstery or textile in a color we don’t offer. Painting your shade is a great way to achieve this look and it couldn’t be easier. We’ve had several customers send us awesome examples of this hack and we’ve even tested it at the Redi Shade office for our craft guide.

To paint your shade, start by picking up an all purpose spray paint in the color of your choosing. When testing this hack in office, we went with the Rustoleum Painter’s Touch 2X Ultra Cover but any standard spray paint should work. We used one entire can of spray paint for a shade trimmed to 32” so if your shade is any larger, we would recommend picking up a couple cans.

Once you have your desired spray paint, gently flatten the shade so you can evenly cover it and spray at the recommended distance in a well ventilated area. Let the shade dry completely, gently re-fold the pleats if needed and install the shade as directed. It’s that easy and the possibilities are endless!

Please note before attempting: we only recommend applying this customization method to our Original and Original Arch Paper or Fabric shades. We do not recommend painting our Easy Lift, Easy Lift Select, Artisan Select, or Artisan Custom shades as it will void their warranty.
