Shade Hacks: Decorating Shades

You may have read our post a few weeks ago on painting your shades which is a great option to customize and match you decor, but for those looking to add pattern or texture to your shades, decorating may be a great option. Customizing your shade with stamps, decals, deco tape, fabric, pom-poms and more can be fun for a craft room, playroom, child’s room or anywhere you are looking to add an accent.

Here are a few examples for inspiration, but the options are endless so send us your favorite way to decorate our shades by tagging us on FacebookTwitterInstagram or Pinterest.

1. STAMP-PRINTED SHADES

To recreate this bold and bright pattern, you’ll need a sponge stamp  and acrylic paint of your choice. Both of these items should be available at your local craft store. After covering your workspace and gently flattening your shade to get even coverage, dab your sponge in the paint and begin stamping the shade to your desired pattern. Once the shade is fully dry, gently re-fold the pleats if needed and install.

2. DECO TAPE SHADES

This method featured in our craft guide is completely customizable. Whether you want to do a simple border like we did, stripes, a geometric pattern this hack is simple and fun.

3. COVERING SHADES IN FABRIC

Apply your favorite textile to your shade for a customized look. This method will even add an extra layer of light filtration depending on the fabric you choose. Applying fabric is also a great way to tie your arch shade in to your fabric drapes.
